Hybrids between the typhosa d' Escherichia coli K-12 and of salmonellas which preserved a segment continuous K-12 diploïde chromosomal s' extending from the pro macaw crossing instead of strA were sensitive to the formation of plates by the λ savage-type. These hybrids partially diploïdes of typhosa of S. could lysogenized with the λ and being induced later to produce the infectious particles bacteriophages. When the K-12 genes were insulated d' an hybrid lysogene of typhosa of S., bacteriophage-productive capacity n' was more due discernible to the loss d' a genetic area necessary for the vegetative counterpart of the λ. However, the prophage of λ was shown to persist in a quiet state in the segregant hybrid one of typhosa of S. with the bacteriophage-productive capacity being reactivated after the replacement of the essential area of counterpart of the λ K-12.
